An ancient key. A secret treasure. And a princess destined to use them both to fight evil and restore peace.
Raised by a noble family, Lady Adelaide has always known she’s an orphan. Little does she realize she’s one of the lost princesses and the true heir to Mercia’s throne…until a visitor arrives at her family estate, reveals her birthright as queen, and thrusts her into a quest for the throne whether she’s ready or not.
Unable to tolerate King Ethelwulf’s cruelty and lawlessness, Christopher Langley left Mercia years earlier, training a group of rebels in neighboring Norland. When he returns home after his mother’s death, he discovers that not only is Adelaide all grown up, but she’s also the rightful queen of Mercia.
When King Ethelwulf discovers Adelaide’s location, he’ll stop at nothing to capture her and the key she holds to the ancient treasure. Christopher is just as determined to protect Adelaide so she can lead the growing rebellion. When feelings ignite between the two old friends, forces threaten to destroy their love and rip them apart forever.

The Lost Princesses #1
By Jody Hedlund
Adelaide has a life that she loves though since Uncle Whelan's death life has been more difficult. And with Aunt Susanna's deteriorating health Adelaide's life is about to change especially when the truth about who she is is revealed. The long-lost Princess Constance didn't die when King Ethelwulf seized the throne of Mercia instead she was hidden away at Langley for the last 17 years and the time to lay claim to her throne has come.
But Adelaide has no desire to change her life and claim what she doesn't know. But when she sees the suffering of the people that she should be queen over she knows that she has little choice in the matter. She owes it to those who her parents ruled to become the ruler that they desired her to be.
But King Ethelwulf is determined to hold onto his united kingdom of Bryttania (the reunion of Mercia and Warwick) and he will do whatever he can to keep Adelaide from laying claim to what he believes is his and his family's by right. And the "cousins" who love her will do all in their power to keep her safe even if it costs them everything. Christopher wants Adelaide to lead the rebellion that has grown over the years, the rebellion that he left home 5 years ago to join. While Mitchell wants to protect Adelaide and fulfill the vow he made upon his mother's deathbed.
Evermore is the first book in the Lost Princesses series but it isn't the beginning, to learn how Adelaide escaped from King Ethelwulf you will need to read the prequel novella Always. But Always isn't necessary to read and enjoy Evermore, though knowing the backstory is always nice. Evermore is the beginning of the quest to restore what was lost and the first step is Adelaide laying claim to the throne that was stolen and then to find the sisters she has lost uniting with them to find a long lost treasure. Evermore is the first step and it is a delightful book that is complete in itself and one can anticipate the next book without being left hanging from a cliff. One knows more is coming but it is a satisfying ending.
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own

Book 2 -Maribel hardly reflects on her calling as a nun or the fact of what happened to the nuns along with Wade who was murdered who raised her and where left behind and as she recklessly leads Edmund around by at the nose, first to old Convent where they miraculously, quickly, find a piece of a map hidden for centuries and then the dangerous death labyrinth where they enter without a care. Sadly, Edmund, her boyhood friend is a weak-willed individual, with no common sense and who all of always gives into Maribel, despite Maribel's selfish actions, which gets them into one perilous situation after another. Would such young woman dedicated to healing and serving God be so irresponsible and reckless? I am disappointed with character depth. Astonishingly, Edmund becomes a miraculous and adept hero who easily kills multiple Elite skilled soldiers that have years of training/training being brutal enforcers and little compunction. The character development is sadly lacking for both Maribel and Edmund and could have been done so much better.
Unfortunately, Book 3 is no better. Emmeline the heroine is said to be so happy, content with her adopted parents and the love of her pet fox. However, after she captured, she takes to her captor (Rex) so quickly, never-minding that it was he who threatened to torture her parents, had a man tortured so brutally (which she sees at his camp) and who forces her to marry him for selfish purposes of the king and himself (to appease the king). She never contemplates the brutality, when she is taken back to the king's castle on a many day horseback ride. She makes weak attempts at escape and when her captor rescues from a second stupid attempt, she pretty much falls in love with him after a few days. This really is a disappointing example to set for young women. If a guy is handsome, an abusive brute and a captor who saves you, then you develops love attraction to him, succumb like a weak-willed lovesick girl to his touch. Never mind she's exhausted, hungry, moderately injured, been riding a horse for days on end, squeezed into a saddle in front of her captor (when not used to riding and should not even be able to walk with all the bruising from the front of the saddle along with her bottom). So unbelievable!!! Emmeline seems to forget way too quickly about the adopted parents she left behind, no homesickness, fails to contemplate that Rex's dad (King Ethelwulf), the heinously brutal king who had her biological royal parents murdered, their dead bodies display on outside royal castle walls, when she was not even a day old as King Ethelwulf stormed their castle and pretty much tortured, murdered everyone in sight. Jody must have written these books too quickly without much feedback. I do like her writing but disappointed. I feel at the reader deserves so much more.

Adelaide and her two step cousins go in search of her twin sisters , the other two lost princesses. Soon the search becomes a chase as the evil king pursues them in hope of finding all three princesses. The story becomes an action packed nail biting chase with many unexpected twists and turns thrown in . Will Adelaide be successful in finding her sisters and evading her enemies who seek to capture her ?
Jody Hedlund is a gifted writer and she holds nothing back from readers in her latest release Evermore. She keeps my interest through out the book. Normally medieval fiction isn't my genre but this author pens a beautiful and romantic novel that I can't resist.
All fans of Jody Hedlund , medieval fiction or Christian Fiction will love this book. I highly recommend it. I also recommend that you first read the prequel Always before reading Evermore.
I bought a Kindle ebook version of Evermore from Amazon. A positive review was not requested. All opinions expressed here are my own.
