I've read all of Kristin Hannah's books, but I think this one is the saddest one she wrote. I couldn't put it down.
If you like Kristin Hannah's books, you will love this one.

Dies ist das erste Buch von Kristin Hannah, das ich negativ kritisieren muss. Ich habe die vorhergehenden Bücher - Magic Hour, Firefly Lane und True Colors - allesamt verschlungen. Mit diesem Exemplar kann ich nicht so richtig etwas anfangen. Erstmal startet das Buch mit einer Teenager-Geschichte, die der von Firefly Lane inhaltlich sehr ähnelt - zu sehr. Die Teenager sind aber zudem noch total unsympathisch und klischeehaft dargestellt. Es passiert auch nicht viel und Langeweile kommt auf... Ich hätte das Buch zur Mitte hin fast schon enttäuscht weggelegt, da gab es dann doch noch die für Hannah typische Wendung, die ich hier jedoch nicht offenlegen möchte. Die Geschichte wurde danach zumindest fesselnder, für die Charaktere konnte ich mich aber bis zum Schluss nicht wirklich erwärmen. Ich kann daher nicht empfehlen, dieses Buch zu kaufen. Die oben erwähnten Vorgänger sind dagegen echte Knaller. Hoffentlich findet Frau Hannah zur alten Form zurück...

The Nigthingale war das erste Buch der Autorin, das ich gelesen habe. Ich war begeistert wie ich es schon lange nicht mehr war. Also kaufte ich dieses Buch und war herb enttäuscht. Hannah hat eine wahre Gabe, einen in das Gefühlsleben ihrer Figuren eintauchen zu lassen. In diesem Buch hat sie dieses Talent aber verschwendet und eine Geschichte geschrieben, die mehr an einen Kitschroman erinnert. Hannah hat es sich zu leicht gemacht und eine Story entwickelt, die zwar oberflächlich berührend ist, aber letztlich sehr vorhersehbar und - langweilig. Ich kann irgendwie gar nicht glauben, dass beide Bücher von Hannah sind. Ich werde noch ein weiteres Buch von ihr lesen, damit ich weiß ob The Nightingale ein positives Ausnahmebuch ist und der Rest Kitsch, oder der Rest ähnlich gut wie the Nightingale und "Night Road" eine negative Ausnahme ist.

Ich empfehle, dieses Buch nicht zu lesen.

Mitreißende Geschichte, fesselnde Sprache

Ich habe den Roman in Englisch gelesen und bin restlos begeistert. Kannte vorher von Kristin Hannah "Die Nachtigall" (in Deutsch) mit komplett anderem Geschehen. Schon der Roman hat mich begeistert. Die Story von Night Road scheint zwar dagegen etwas platt und amerikanisch, doch während man liest, ist man gefesselt von den Charakteren und der Dramatik der Geschichte. Mit den Worten und Sätzen, die Kristin Hannah schreibt, schafft sie es, einen tief zu berühren ohne dass es kitschig wirkt.
Man weint während des Lesens die Tränen der Protagonisten.
Wenn möglich ist es sicher ratsam, die Originalversion zu lesen.

Dieses Buch fängt sehr...schön an. Wie die beiden Mädels sich kennen lernen. Ich finde es schön, wie man die Familie kennen lernt. Es ist Fesselnd!!!! Vorallem wenn man sich etwas reingelesen hat!
Es ist sehr gut, und vorallem ziemlich wirklichkeitsgereu geschrieben. Denn das was in diesem Buch passiet kann schlielich jedem passieren. Vielleicht nich alles ganz soooo extrem. Mehr sage ich dazu nicht, dass ich die Spannung nicht verderbe.
Aber eines sollte man wissen: Es ist traurig! Tragisch, spannend! Und trotzdem GENIAL (vorallem zum heulen)!
Wer gefühlvoll geschriebene Bücher mag ist hier auf jedenfall richtig. Es ist nicht nur traurig also BITTE nicht davon abschrecken lassen! Es lohnt sich!

Da ich selbst es HASSE, dass die Leute immer ales soooo genau in ihre Rezension schreiben, (also, was so alles passiert, wie es ausgeht, einzelheiten, die man noch selbst rausfinden will, da es die spannung vergrößert) ---> was dann oft die Spannung verdirbt, lasse ich das.
Lest das buch selbst, das ist viel schöner und vorallem spannender!

This boom felt like reading The sweet gum tree by Katherine Allred or Don’t let go by Sharla Lovelace vibes. Only difference is Sharla & Katherine books are solely romance and love story.

Kristen Hannah is a beautiful writer that write from the heart. Although her books does have romance in it . It’s more wholesome, family drama with romance. I first read Once in a lifetime by this author which is my all time favourite book.

Although I love deeply romance booms . I come back to Kristen Hannah for that sweet , warm hug feeling I get once I’ve read her books. This book is about anguish,grief, new love/friendship,pain , atonement , forgiveness and love.

I found Judith character so flawed she had a favourite which I couldn’t understand. Parents never should have a favourite but she did and she obviously showed it. To make it worse Judith was also a helicopter parent. At first I thought Mia was selfish too but she had empathy that made her see earlier on when she was just being selfish. I really FELT for Lexi and Zach .

Started off well and I had high hopes of a good read. Unfortunately, the second half didn’t flow at all for me - just kept dithering from Lexi to Mia to Zach to Jude (poor Miles didn’t get much of a look-in!). I feel the author tried to deal with too many profound topics in the same novel - impact of maternal addiction/abandonment, fostering, teenage relationships, death of one’s child - and as for the relationship between Jude and her mother .... well, that was only explained in the last few pages. Furthermore, the author clearly didn’t do enough research into reintroducing a mother to her small child! As a social worker for many years, I was appalled how crassly that was handled! It would never happen like that here in England, and I find it unbelievable that it would be managed like that in the USA. The ending was trite and truly dire! Sorry, Ms Hannah, but I wouldn’t recommend this book at all.

I loved everything about this book. The setting, back story, fully formed & recognisable characters. It's the most emotionally captivating story. There is love & joy & utter heartbreak. I didn't cry, I wept. I had to put it down a couple of times. It's not a depressing read at all. It's very human & beautiful, but it would bring tears to a glass eye.

Get the tissues ready & delight in the part you play in this book. It's the most stunning book I've ever had the privilege to read.

‘Once, this road had simply been the way home’

The Night Road is an emotional rollercoaster that surrounds the events that took place, that simmer in 2004.
The characterisation is intense, with each character playing a role in the story of what took place that summer. Teen siblings Mia and Zach are at the heart of the tale. Mia’s best friend Lexi is new to the area and moving into a local trailer park with her aunt, finally escaping a life in foster care. Mia and Zach’s mother Jude also plays a central role, as she becomes like a mother to Lexi.

Judy Farraday is the mother we all wish to be. She has known her own share of heartache and difficult upbringing, but she hasn’t let it impact the way she has chosen to raise her kids. They are at the heart of every decision she comes to make. She often agonises over every minor detail in their lives.

‘It’s impossible to love you children too much’ - Jude

Pine Island high school is where Lexi and Mia first meet and instantly strike up a deep friendship. Mia finds it difficult to fit in and Lexi is new to town and looking to settle in and get on with her education. Too often children are forced to carry the stigma of their own parents and this becomes evident in Lexi’s life. I felt quite emotional at times during Lexi’s story and the theme’s were really tear jerking.

As with all teenage friendships there will be secrets and forbidden love. But for these teens the mistakes they make one night will have a massive impact on all their futures. Can Jude protect her children? And will Lexi survive saying bye to more people in her life?

The raw honesty of the situation is astounding. I cannot say too much here for fear of leaving spoilers. But this book left a huge dent in my heart. 4*

Best book I have read in a long time. A story about finding yourself, family and friends. Also about love and how it can endure. The characters were engaging. Jude was really hard to like through most of the book, but that resolved itself by the end. The least well defined was Miles, Juse’s husband who was always rather ignored by his wife I thought. But an excellent story with minimal grammar or typo mistakes.
