I love this adventure path. I went through it as a player and now I am running it as a GM. It is a bit experimental in places (really didn't like the play bit in the six-fold path) but the whole thing is written in a way that you can tweak, change or even completely replace things on player of GM whims.
The up and down side is that there is so much detail and background that the GM can let the players go where ever they want and still keep them roughly on track with the plot. And there are hundreds of opportunities to personalise the game to fit players and characters. I say that this is a downside as well because it means a lot of reading and thinking from the GM as well.
On the whole to get the best out of this you need to run the whole campaign. It does take some work from the GM, not as much as a complete homebrew campaign but certainly a lot more than the usual pick up and play scenario. Definitely worth it though.
