As many people who are interested in this novel may know, the world of Runeterra is well established as one of the best written, most expansive and interconnected fantasy worlds out there. But there are some events of great relevance to it's history that are spoken of in a tone that focuses solely on their effects in the present, with little details on how they happened in the past. This is where the novel Ruination comes in.
The events of the Ruination, regarded as one the greatest catastrophes to have happened in the recent history of Runeterra, with it's effects growing day by day, were, for the longest time, shrouded in mistery, little more known about them other than the destruction of the former Blessed Isles by the attempt of the, at the time, king Viego of Camavor to revive his murdered queen, Isolde.
Ruination (the novel) focuses on telling the story of the events of the Ruination not through Viego as the main character, but through Kalista, who is officialy his niece, but older sister at heart. It follows Viego's descent to madness and subsequent rot of the kingdom of Camavor, now lost to time.
As the former Blessed Isles, now Shadow Isles following their destruction, are a main focus of the story as well, we get to see the making off some of League of Legends most famous champions, those of which I will not spoil but guarantee it'll be an interesting read, as the novel makes the foundation for who they are now, in great detail.
Overall, I believe you should go ahead and buy this if you are interested in knowing more about the events of the Ruination, the champions that were involved in it (some of which you may not expect), and Runeterra itself. Others who are unaware of League of Legends lore may find this less appealing, as it is clearly focused on those that already know a bit about it.
