I am not going to lie, I bought this book because of the cover. It is so stunning! The story also grapped my attention. I'm a sucker for fae, academies and dividing by seasons. The first few pages I had to get into the story. Summer Soltice uses foul language and does not think about her actions or the consequences thereof. However the story grapped me and didn't let go. I loved reading about Summer her friends and the Winter Prince! The story had a lot of clichés, but just the clichés I loved. I can't wait for the second book Spring!
I wasn't looking for this when I found it, I'm not a huge reader of YA\NA books but I wanted a good fantasy read with fae in them and let me tell you, there aren't that many out there that are good. This book? It was great, it got me hooked when I started the sample and I couldn't put it down.
There's a lot to this book that I just loved. Action, drama, romance, the main characters are just to die for (especially Summer), even the side characters are amazing! Yes, it's an academy \school style book with older teens so it's a little more risky in the love telling I guess? That's the only way I can describe it, meaning there's a tad more description about love scenes and body anatomy. But that's why I loved it, the Academy is not what you think. It has a Harry Potter feel to it with deception, secrets, magic, trials, and of course all kinds of different looking fae's and creatures.
Keep in mind that it is a YA book so no steamy love scenes and barely any swearing but again that didn't bother me AT ALL. The writing was suppurb the world Building most beautiful and the story itself is great!
Reading ya fiction has always been how I love to spend my time. I have many favorite series that have been pretty hard to top, but this one somehow manages to top ALL of them. I didn’t think I’d ever find anything better than the TOG series, but this is. It has my favorite villain love interest trope that’s twisted in mystery, facades, and typical fae treachery, but also a glorious love story strong enough to overcome any obstacles.
The protagonist has the best personality I’ve experienced yet. She’s spunky, kind, brave, and most of all—resilient which is necessary for this cruel world. Her character touches the hearts of even the cruelest characters and continuously surprises everyone. She’s a truly inspiring heroine. The prince is the perfect amount of bad who also has the heart of a lion. He’s a combination of the perfect soulmate, protector, tormentor, and sexy villain. The constant banter between them is thrilling, and kept me wanting more, but in the best way. Truly the best love interest I’ve read.
Normally, I can’t stand books with mean girls, but this was tasteful and added to the story in all the right ways, mostly because of how the protagonist reacted to them. The action and trials she goes through is also incredible. The characters and world building is the best I’ve ever read. I read the entire series in three days and am rereading it immediately after.
I've been seeing this book for awhile. I didn't pick it because "academy reads" are just an instant eye rolling no-go for me. I hit a good book dry spell. I read the reviews for Evermore Academy. I reluctantly downloaded it. I'm soooo glad I did. There are tropes here. There are fae, vampires, mates, an academy. But the way it's written, the plot, the characters made this story feel fresh. The concepts are original. The MC is written so well. She's likable. Relatable. She has a few moments of what I'd call immaturity, but who among us hasn't? She's not whiney. She's witty and intelligent. The love interest doesn't overly stand out to me but it works. The romance element doesn't over shadow the plot. The bond to her family and friends remains important to her. It's a great balance. I always get worried a fantastic story is going to get lost in a mooshy romance that moves way too fast. This book is more adventure/fantasy than romance. The mystery veil starts to drop pretty quickly. At one point I was thinking, how has Summer not figured this out? But in fairness, I don't think anyone in her position would be expecting the things that are revealed. The author is good, it wasn't oversight. In the first few pages I knew the author put time, work and her heart into this story. Everything she did was intentional. She really wrote a fantastic story. The academy and how the humans fit in is really creative. It's intricately woven. And it's a big story. A big world with a lot characters. The world building is perfect. I could picture it perfectly without skimming pages of boring descriptions. The pacing is perfect. The first book covers a whole year. That's not easy to do without it feeling rushed. I really prefer books written in first person. Unfortunately that runs the risk of way too much inner dialogue. That's not the case with Evermore Academy. It's more showing than telling. That's important. I highly recommend!
This is such a strong start to a series. I’m in love. If you liked Zodiac Academy, hold onto your hat. This is same vibe with a way better storyline. ACOTAR or HP fans will love this book. Moderate spice, maybe one pepper.
